Summary-Team Meeting

Good Morning Reservoir Track & Field:

Yesterday we had a mandatory meeting that covered a variety of topics.  The hope is that we do not repeat some of the same mistakes/issues moving forward.  We used this meeting as an opportunity to learn and grow.  No one was in trouble and no one got in trouble.  The goal is to learn from our First meet Mistakes and get better!

We started off with a few highlights:

  • Thank you for all the support and self transporting. We had lots of volunteers to self transport and help make it possible for everyone to attend the meet.  This meet will be the biggest self transport meet.
  • Lots of great communication with the coaches from athletes and parents about missing practices or meets. Please keep up the great communication.
  • Thank you to all the kids who left class on time and met at the bus in a timely manner. The bus was able to depart Reservoir on time!
  • Thank you for being courteous to the Bus Drivers. Your manners and politeness goes a long way.
  • Lots of fast times and amazing efforts at the meet.
    • 130 Personal best marks
    • 32 Season Best Marks
  • Both the boys and girls won the meet!  That was Howard’s first loss of a league meet in a very long time.

What are the two things you need to do in order to be successful on this team?

  • Effort and being dependable
  • We do not require talent to be on this team. We just expect you to put forth the effort to be better and to be a contributing member of the team.
  • Make sure you teammate can depend on you.
  • Stop looking for ways to get out of things and think about ways you can contribute.

Warming Up and Cooling down

  • Everyone needs to properly warm-up and cool down for their events. You run an extremely high risk of injury if you cheat yourself on either of these
  • Warm-Ups:
    • You should be sweating.
    • That is an easy way to know your Body Core Temp is where is should be.
    • You want your Body Ready to go. It needs to be primed and ready which means a proper warm-up.
  • Cool Downs:
    • Helps clear the natural waste products that your muscles produce during exercise.
    • It is vital to clear those from your muscles. That is the purpose of the cool down.
    • This will also help you prep for the next event
    • It also helps your body recover
    • Helps to eliminate Soreness
    • Helps to reduce risk of injury
  • The Coaching staffs will publish a list of a proper cool down routine on their workout documents. This will be expected to be completed after every event.

Checking in for your event and Meet Etiquette:

  • When your event is called, you should check in at First Call.
  • You need to check in RACE READY (unless the weather dictates you need clothes/warm-ups etc.). Meaning have your spikes on and you are ready to race.
  • If you are on a relay team, all relay members must check in together.
  • If you are in a field event, you need to check out of the field event with the field event official, go run your race, and then check back in within 5 minutes of your running event concluding.
  • If you miss your event without consulting with a Coach, you run the risk of being removed from the meet all together.
  • Do not use Foul Language or the N-Word. These are disqualifiable offenses if an official hears you it could be removal from the meet.
  • No Electronics (Phones, ear bud, head phone, etc.) on the in field, on the track or in any area deemed an area of competition.
  • No Pacing, running on the turf/in field next to our runners
