Post Season Track & Field

We have had an excellent season, performance wise!

We have also had an excellent season with a number of athletes/runners finding a passion for track & field. It is important you keep that passion going. Keep putting in the work! Below you will find a few options for you to help with training. Bottom-line is find a way to keep working out and have fun!

NOTE: If you are training for New Balance Nationals, you can train with your group or follow the workouts that I will be putting on the Workout Google Doc. I will not be attending practices, unless you need me to get you equipment, etc.

Throwers:

  • You may workout with Coach Hickson. He will have access to implements and the school. A few small rules: No more than 2 athletes at a time with Coach Hickson and each athlete may not work out with Coach Hickson more than 2 times per week. Contact him to schedule time to workout. You should throw a few times a week and you should be in the weight room every day! Coach Hickson: 301-536-5373

  • If you want private coaching, Nick Agoris is a great resource in this area.

Jumpers:

If you are not involved with a Summer track team, and you want to work on jump drills, plyos, summer workouts, etc. You can reach out to Mekhi Landon and work with Mekhi personally 240-470-5922 or mekhlandon23@gmail.com

You can also reach out to former Coach of Reservoir and excellent jump coach Tyrell Taitt, 410-463-4333. You may have to call him a few times, but stay persistent!

Pole Vault

If you are interested in Pole Vault (Gymnasts, Divers, Dancers, etc). Please reach out to Jacob Sanders 443-789-6822

Sprinters:

It is very important you continue to workout. That you keep perfecting your craft! If you want to get better and really see improvement, summer track is the way to go! If you wish to compete over the summer, you must act quickly and sign up for one of the programs. AAU meets are coming up soon and registration is DUE ASAP. There are a few options that I really want to encourage.

  1. Full Speed Athletics is the groups that Mekhi Landon is helping out with. You can access their website at www.fullspeedathletics.com, you can reach out to Mekhi , 240-470-5922. Coach Pam will take care of you guys and make you great!
  2. Bullseye Running is a local group made up of mostly Howard County Athletes. Coach Chris Brewington and Coach Jamila Brown are the coaches for Bullseye. They are Oakland Mills Coaches during the school year. This is also one of the cheaper options out there. You can sign up by contacting Coach Phil Lang (Program Coordinator) at coachlang@hotmail.com. Practices are at Long Reach HS. Here is the program flier.
  3. NOTE: If you are planning to compete in the AAU first round meet at Century High (requirement for competing at Regionals or Nationals) on June 11-12 and have not gotten back to me and paid by tonight you will not get to participate in the AAU meets this Summer.  There will be other meets but the AAU first round qualifier meet entry deadline is tonight, no exceptions.

Distance Runners:

Summer training for all runners will start officially June 6th. It is important that you start on time and you start logging your miles on Strava. Your running needs to start on schedule and you need to follow the progression of weekly miles. Whether you run with your teammates or with Bullseye’s Cross Country Program, you need to start building up to running 6 days a week and you need to run daily! Regardless of the heat, weather, etc, you need to make time to run. Early morning runs or Late Evening runs are the best to avoid the heat!

I plan to have a team meeting at some point in the near future! Stand by!

ALSO… there are a few OPEN Track meets this summer:

Its going to be a great summer… and what’s a great summer without some track meets for anyone and everyone!  All Ages, all abilities are welcomed.  We seed the meet and score the event based on ability.  Each race is run as an open event by gender. You simply sign up and register as an unattached athlete unless you sign up under your club.
