Updates

First off, I want to apologize for what appears to be chaos, unorganized, constant changes, etc. That is not my style or the way I conduct business at the Track & Field Head Coach!

Virtual Parent/Athlete Meeting: Once I have more concrete information, I will schedule a meeting. For now, I am going to update you on what I do know, or think I know.

PG Sports and Learning Complex: Unfortunately, things have been in a holding pattern due to the PG Sports & Learning Complex being used as a vaccine site. Last Week, the PG Complex told us they were opening on DEC 15th. Monday morning we were told that PG is going to re-evaluate their opening due to a spike in vaccines (both kids and adult boosters) and a spike in the Co-Vid Variant. As of right now, the Complex will let us know by the end of the week, the plan for re-opening or closing.

Howard County: HCPSS is trying to have some form of a season. When the complex said they were opening, the plan was to have a HYRBRID season to make up for a few of the last meets. A hybrid season meaning a few outdoor meets in the first part of the season and the remainder of the season would include indoor meets. As of right now, our first meet is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15th (On the Half Day).

Meet Details:

  • Location: River Hill
  • Time Frame: 2:15pm – 4:15/4:30pm
  • Who? TBD

More information will be coming by the end of the week so I hope to be able to update you then.

On a side note, I do want to update you about 2 meet opportunities and other possible meet dates we plan on having later in the season.

  • January 8th is the Hispanic Games in NYC or the Freedom Games in Staten Island, NY. I am looking at getting a bus for this trip. I am gathering information about cost of a bus, etc. We would leave at 5:30am and return around 11:30pm. NOTE for the NY Armory: You must have proof of VACCINE to enter the facility.
  • January 14th & 15th is the VA Showcase at Virginia Beach, VA. Attached to this link is Hotel information. This an amazing meet and will be maxed out with a talented field of athletes. For this meet, this will be a self transport meet. NOTE: You must have proof of VACCINE to enter the facility.
  • Other Possible Meets:
    • Ocean Breeze Holiday Festival (12/27): Ocean Breeze Complex, Staten Island, NY
    • Marine Corps Holiday Classic (12/28-12/29): New York Armory, New York

After School Practice: The Sprinters and Throwers tend to practice inside during the colder days. This is normal for our sport. I wanted to update you and remind you about a few things that everyone needs to be aware of.

  • While we are inside, all athletes and coaches must wear masks, unless you are actively running (or higher intensity work).
  • Throwers will wear a mask at all times inside, unless they are conditioning.
  • Due to the bus issues, if we practice inside, we will not start practice until 3:00pm. So on indoor practice days, practice will be from 3:00pm – 4:30/4:45pm. Most days below 40 degrees, we will be inside.
